As the number of disasters and crises affecting the tourism industry increases, it is becoming necessary to understand the nature of these disasters and how to manage it in order to limit the impacts of such incidents. However, relatively little research has been carried out to draw managerial framework for both tourism industry and destination level. The purpose of this paper is to build a response system to manage the situations and minimize the negative effect to the destination from crisis which includes large scale disaster, disease and accident. In order to do this, the paper defines crises and disasters before discussing the area of crisis and disaster management. It also looks at the nature of crises and disasters. Moreover, special attention is dedicated to the types of crises and disasters in tourism particularly. As the result of the research, theoretical model of crisis management for tourism industry and destination has been suggested. Finally, the paper concludes with the tourism disaster management framework (TDMF) along with three stages any organizations could go through. Those stages vary in length of time according to the nature of the crisis. By examining how crises and disasters are managed, lessons for destinations and organizations may help turn such incidents into positive forces for change and help to reduce the severity of future disasters.
