Gender statistics generally refers to the statistics that separates women and men at the individual level. However, it broadly refers to the statistics that is produced for the purpose of revealing the realities of gender inequality. As such, the production and accumulation of gender statistics is crucial for the implementation and delivery of gender sensitive policy as well as an important means of gender mainstreaming, and a basic line for gender impact assessment and gender responsive budgeting.
In response to the growing demands for gender statistics not only for women’s policy but making various policy making at the local government levels, Seoul City have produced Gender Statistics since 2004. And SFWF produced ｢Women and Men in Seoul｣ since 2006. Now we were forced to produce it as “2013 Women and Men in Seoul” in 2013.
The ｢Women and Men in Seoul｣ is composed of 11 broad topics, including Population, Family, Child Care, Education, Economic Activity, Health and Environment, Welfare, Political and Social Participation, Culture and Information, Safety, and Comparison between Seoul and other 16 Metropolitan Regions. For this collection, we attempted to include as many statistics as possible that are relevant for the national policy issues that have gained importance in recent years such as low fertility, health activity, one person family, elder one person family, multiculturalism, and so on. As such, the collection has greatly expanded the coverage, and it includes as many as 299 individual statistics.
