Diverse sensor technologies have been embedded in mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablet PCs, and wearable devices, for context-aware applications. This study aims to survey the current status of sensor technologies. To achieve this goal, we collected 417 relevant documents, such as journal articles, proceedings, news items, and patents published since 2011. We then identified the contexts in which sensor technologies are applied, and classified the technologies based on the identified contexts. As a result, 424 sensor technologies were grouped into three categories (by information type that the sensor technologies recognize: user information, device information, and environment information). The results of this study provide an overview of sensor technologies for context awareness.
