Objective: The aim of this study is to identify user requirement for smart home with integrating meaning of home and requirements for intelligent environment. Background: Despite a growing literature on user requirements for intelligent environment, there have been few studies considering spatial context of home. Method: This study is based on a review of the relative literature. First we explored studies about user requirements for smart home. Second, reviewing prior researches about meaning of home led to the finding of user requirements for home with spatial context. Third, collected requirements were integrated and redefined. Results: We categorized these requirements into seven factors (Safety, Social relationship, Implicit, Simplicity, Flexibility, Reliability, and Utility). Conclusion: These redefined user requirements can cover HCI perspectives and social scientific perspectives for smart home. Application: The results of user requirements for smart home should help to reflect needs and desires of inhabitant for designing smart home services.
