Objective: The possibility of a simpler movie classification method was examined in this study. Background: The Korea Media Rating Board (KMRB), an independent non-governmental organization, classifies more than 1,200 movies and 4,500 videos in a year. All movies should be watched by the board members to be rated and film classification is a very tardy process. Method: Two experiments were conducted to examine the possibility of applying physiological measurements to film classification. In the first experiment, most sexual and violent scenes of 32 movies were captured and classified by university students after brief explanation and training. Eye movements of the participants were recorded and analyzed while they watched 6 movies in the second experiment. Results: The participants evaluated 15+ and R rated movies consistently. Especially for sexual movies, 100% consensus was achieved among the participants. More and longer fixations were given to the more sexual and violent objects and body parts. Conclusion: Extreme scenes of 15+ and R movies could be captured and used for the classification. We observed eye gaze analysis would have potentiality to be used for evaluating the movies. More convenient and accurate physiological indexes need to be examined. Application: We will apply the results to find better physiological measurements for the movie classification.
