Deprivation of local community happens due to lack of human resources, physical materials and proper programs that activate the local community and the situation becomes worse if the residents do not expect improvement or if the residents give up innovation and become senile and powerless. In order to vitalize such deprived area community worker is absolutely necessary. However, the role and importance of such community workers has not been introduced not only in Korea but also in other foreign countries. The purpose of this study is to define the roles of community workers for regeneration of deprived urban area and to find out the characteristics of the community workers to carry out the necessary roles. The method of this study is to study the cases at the local regeneration site, and to observe the activities of the community actors who work for community regeneration of the deprived urban area. This thesis intends to systematically propose the proper roles and capabilities of community actors. It is meaningful that the results of this study help to improve the understanding of experts who are essential for expansion of urban regeneration and propose the desirable direction to bring up the experts.
