Arishima Takeo wrote 「The three dramas」that are based on the Bible after apostatizing from Christianity. Are they based on his potential faith or his antipathy to Christianity? Miyano Mituo said Arishima thought of a human Jesus which different from orthodox interpretation as his ideal type. It can be said that Arishima apostatized from Christianity, but he has his own faith about Jesus.
In this paper, I explored how distress caused by the irreconcilable minds of God and human are resolved and how the relationship between a man and a woman is changed from breakup to harmony through 「The three dramas」.「The three dramas」includes ‘Before the Flood’, ‘Samson and Delilah’ and ‘The Lord"s Supper’. First, in the relationship between God and human, I researched about the salvation that 「The three dramas」showed. Arishima interpreted salvation stories of the Bible as he wished, and it showed doubts about God’s authority.
Second, in the relationship between a man and a woman I researched about death as「The three dramas」showed and about women; that is, a woman that is double-hearted, a woman that betrays, and a woman that commits adultery. If it means salvation to someone, it will mean death to others. There are many deaths in「The three drams」. What is interesting is that death is relevant to betrayal. A double-hearted woman, Naama loved an angel and Japheth at the same time. This is considered to be how Arisima’s mind treats Christianity. Delilah betrayed Samson because she loved him and she wanted to make sure of his love. The love of Delilah was not understood. It is nothing less than Arishima what called ‘betrayal’. As for a woman that committed adultery, Mary Magdalene was a double-hearted woman and a betraying woman, but she was forgiven her sin by Jesus and became a woman that only comprehended Jesus. It is Arishima Takeo that comprehends Jesus as human being.「The three drams」 represents much of Arishima’s desire to recover from ‘betrayal’.
