The purpose of the study is to do a fundamental research to establish a system for a medical service design. The study is based on the analysis of the factors affecting movements of patients in orthopedic hospital. It employed the methodology of space syntax and service design to quantify the qualitative analysis. Detailed methods are as follows: (1) Conduct a survey of 10 patients to figure out stopping points and name them “spots” where the patients receive services, (2) Draw a service journey map to identify service touch points from the spots, (3) Utilize the space syntax program to analyze the hospital space and derive integration value, (4) Determine hot spots based on the integration value and research way finding elements at the hot spots, (5) Define the correlation between the elements which help patients find ways and integration value. The result indicates there is a proportional correlation between the two factors, which will enable us to prioritize medical service designs according to the integration value and subsequently lay a systematic and effective plans.
