This paper argues a multidominance analysis for explanatory appositional constructions. These non-restrictive appositions are not selected by the matrix verb and they are separated from the matrix clause. However, the appositive is connected with an element of matrix clause that functions as an anchor in appositional construction. An anchor and its appositive form a predication relation apart from the predication relation of matrix clause. I propose that an anchor and its appositive do not form a similar structure to coordinate structure and the appositive is a constituent that can participate in the syntactic operations of matrix clause. To explain the properties of explanatory appositional construction, I suggest a multidominance structure in which main clause``s predication and apposition``s predication are merged in parallel around a shared element that functions as an anchor. The proposed approach is supported by syntactic phenomena such as agreement, movement, binding facts based on Spanish data.
