This study aims to compare Korean students` individual and pair writing and to examine their reflections on the two types of writing. The participants were 18 students, and the data comprised 18 individual writing, 9 pair writing, and interviews. Students` texts were analyzed in terms of fluency, complexity, and accuracy adopting Storch`s model. The findings revealed that pairs produced longer texts, and the texts had greater fluency, linguistic complexity, and grammatical accuracy. However, two-thirds of the students preferred individual work because of the autonomy and freedom from restricted time and place. This study concluded that writing teachers need to decide how to respond to students` preferences to work alone, but at the same time develop students` writing, and prepare students for assignments which may require them to write collaboratively.
