The purpose of this study is to show how reciting sonnets matches with metrical structure and to compare nPVI-V(normalized Pairwise Variability Index-Vowel) with MI(Meter Index). All syllables of a line in reciting sonnets are articulated more clearly than those of a sentence in speech. As a result, for reciting sonnets, the vowel duration as well as the stress affects nPVI-V. This paper considers the various cases of reciting sonnets which make nPVI-V higher or lower than that of speech. Finally, MI is introduced by reflecting on both stress and vowel duration. MI and nPVI-V have a very high correlation in direct proportion. Hence, the correlation coefficient between MI and nPVI-V can be a criteria for judging accuracy of sonnet recitation.
