In Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Zhu Geliang fully demonstrates the tragic duality in the personality of Chinese ancient intellectuals, which results from the contradiction between their passion for self-dependence and their realistic social status. In terms of the characteristics of Chinese traditional society and culture, the formation of the tragic duality is closely related to Patriarchal Clan System. From the perspective of the author, Luo Guanzhong"s pursuit of self-dependence in an important factor in the formation of Zhu Geliang"s cultural personality.The reason why the character Zhu Geliang has been reflected on is that he realized traditional intellectuals" dream of benefiting the people by participating in running the country, which is considered as an ideal relationship with rulers. This is also where the value of the character Zhu Geliang lies.
