Report Errors
From 1991, the Northeast Asia Sub-Regional Program Meeting in the UNDP initiated the economic cooperation and sustainable development for the countries around Tumen area. However, it failed to attain the original goal due to various hindrances in politics, military and security issues. Since Northeast Asian countries intended to arrange a multilateral approach for the regional peace and security and economic prosperity as well, not only the countries bordering on the Tumen river such as China, Russia, North Korea but also neighbor countries such as South Korea, Japan, and Mongolia have paid attention to the region and multilateral cooperation.
This will address the multilateral cooperation in Northeast Asia because the scope of the Great Tumen Initiative needs to be extended to the Pan East Sea Rim Cooperation. The extended multilateral cooperation will contribute to the resolution of military tension in the Korean Peninsula and ultimately to the reunification of the two Koreas through exchange and cooperation among the relevant participants. For this purpose, this will analyze the cost and benefit consideration on the Pan East Sea Rim Cooperation for each participant.
From Korean perspective, multilateral cooperation including North Korea will be consistent with the foreign policy of South Korea, Eurasia Initiative, and ultimately to the Korean reunification.
