The main purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of positive and negative experience of parent caregiving children with disabilities. Data from 189 parents of children with disabilities who had used social service facilities and a school for the disability.
There are the research results. The level of parent"s empowerment is 3.57 and the level of caregiving burden is 3,01. The mean of self-efficacy is highest. Parent"s empowerment is different, based upon the sex of parent. And caregiving burden is different, based upon the type of disability. The relationship of positive and negative experience of parent caregiving children with disabilities is not significant statistically. The result of the analysis showed more middle level of parent"s empowerment and middle level of caregiving burden. Finally, the level of parent"s empowerment provided a positive effect and caregiving burden provided a negative effect on family adaption.
Based on the results, suggestions were made for social work practice for family of children with disabilities. However, to improve adaption of family with the disabilities children, social services and programs should be prepared to enhance the parent"s empowerment, especially focus on ‘ability’. Besides that, further researches which is focused on various positive and negative experience"s valuables should be conduced. Also the quality research on families" experience is needed.
