Historically, architecture has been a part of civilization, and ceramics such as bricks and tiles that are made of earth have been developed along with the advances of architectural technology.
Despite the unbreakable relationship between architecture and ceramics, there have been relatively little collaborative efforts between them in designing and developing architectural ceramics. Instead, ceramics have been isolatedly developed and used in architecture. The relationship between architecture and ceramics seems forgotten because of the various architectural materials created for the last century. However, as the recent emergence of advanced architectural ceramics produced by innovative processes allows properties of ceramics to converge into that of architecture, indicating ceramic crafts oriented finish materials can work as new materials suitable for a new paradigm in architecture.
It can be a good news to architects who seek for originality if a variety of exterior or cladding materials are produced though technical convergence of function and properties of ceramics as wanted in architectural area, motif of craft forms, and architectural elements. The purpose of this study is to examine architectural ceramics in general and design interior space for an architectural ceramics center as a viable business model which can produce and commercialize architectural ceramics products based on the exchange and cooperation between architects and ceramists.
