In this study, the background, concept, and characteristics of Art Deco were studied as well as the formative characteristics of the Art Deco style in clothing. Based on the study results, the formative characteristics of Art Deco reflected in contemporary fashion were also studied. The beginning of the 20th Century, when the basic Art Deco style first appeared, is considered the study scope and for the formative characteristics. The Art Deco style that is expressed in contemporary fashion dates from 2006 to 2007, mainly around the collection areas. The formative features of Art Deco style clothes are as follows. The silhouette featured the imperial, hobble skirt, minaret, kimono, harem, boyish, garconne, and slim & long styles and the colors were primarily black, gold, and original. The patterns were exotic motif, organic curve, and geometrical in tones of gold and silver and the types of fabrics were metallic, lace, embroidery, fur, artificial flowers, and feathers, etc. The formative characteristics of Art Deco expressed in the current fashion world were derived from the clothes of the Art Deco era, however, they are also designed based on the current trends by means of the modern silhouette, exaggerative expression, well harmonized color, and various and decorative fabrics and patterns instead of merely an act of reproduction. Moreover the common characteristics that appeared in the overall silhouette, color, and patterns were simplicity, exoticism, and decorativeness which were also expressed in the Art Deco age. The use of metallic materials on top of the common characteristics expresses a futuristic feeling and the designer`s unique designs also expressed humor. Likewise, in the features of Art Deco expressed in the current fashions, the contemporary sense is added to the basic frame of Art Deco. This type of Art Deco style will be continuously recreated in the future.
