Is Design a Scholarship? or Art? Nowadays people focus upon this question. This question also means whether a problem-solving method for design is rational or sensitive. But, important things to solve design problems need both of them - scholarship and art. The visual language is a non-visual delivery and has a system in a visual field as vocabulary and grammar in a linguistic delivery system. This study is to find a rule of visual communication and suggest an effective plan to deliver the meaning by examining the relationship between linguistic deliver and non-linguistic deliver and the visualization in poster expression. In most cases, visual in visual design is not the object itself for designer. That is, picture itself in design is not an object and has a function as a symbol. In comparison of a symbolization procedure with a design procedure, the design procedure shows a similar structure to the symbolization procedure, when designer`s intention and use`s interpretation are each converted into sender`s role and receiver`s role. Like this, this symbolic phenomenon in visual language appears variously when design is interpreted as a procedure of symbolization. That is, a symbol form is interpreted as various meanings, and various symbol forms are interpreted as one meaning: a symbol is not an object itself and is directly relates to our thought, and it is much affected by our sense of values and thought and sociocultural factors of social practice. But, symbolization in a communication procedure does not mean a change from one symbol system to the other symbol system, but minimization of complex information through a symbol system. Specially, visualization in a poster plays a role of making an uncertain thing certain through visualization of an important point. A method of visualization is much related to what will be delivered and to meaning and context contained in the message. Therefore, to right understand the visual expressed in a poster, correct analysis of how content and visual of typography is expressed is needed, and only understanding and expression of visual through this analysis can make a full-functioning poster.
