This article aims to analyze the decisive factors of the strategy to end the war for the Communist China during the Korean War(1950-1953).
The Korean War was the most difficult and potentially the most disastrous of the early Cold War period, a conflict which directly involved one of superpowers in open war with the most populous state in the world. The other superpower was only indirectly involved but there was always the possibility that it might intervene; a third world war could erupt.
The Chinese Communist Forces(CCF) had entered warin Korea in late October 1950, completely surprising the Republic of Korea as well as the United Nations Command. The Communist China entered the Korean war to help North Korea and to resist the United States of America. And the Communist China had fought the UN Forces and Korean forces until 27 July 1953.
This study has tried to answer the following key questions: (1) What was the concept and the decisive factors of ‘the strategy to end the war(終結戰略)’ during the Korean War? (2) How did the Communist China act in the initial stage and after the North Korea"s surprise attack against the South Korea? (3) Why did the Communist China enter the Korean War? (4) What was war policy and objective of the Communist China during the Korean War? (5) When and Why did the Communist China try to change his war objective and war aim? (6) Why did the Soviet Union and North Korea involve the Communist China into the Korean War? (7) What was the role ofthe Communist China as a wartime lead state during the Korean War? (8) What did the Communist China obtain from the Soviet Union and the North Korea during the Korean War and after the armistice?
In seeking answers to the above questions this paper used the Communist China’s documents and materials, the Soviet Unions’ documents and materials, and documents and files of the Korea Government, Korean War History of Ministry of National Defense of ROK, and the Memoirs of those statesman and generals who played an active part in policy-making were consulted.
In conclusion, the Communist China achieved an enforcement and modernization of the Chinese Communist Forces, and enforced their Sino-Soviet Union alliance relations through the Korean War. The Communist China also brought change in Sino-North Korea relationship, which meant the rule of North Korea by the Communist China. Accordingly, the Communist China became one of the leading states with the America and the Soviet Union after the Korean War.
