This study serves as an analysis of color in Film Noir with 〈A Bittersweet Life〉 as the central figure of analysis. The final aim of this study is to find out the effects of color application in a specific film and how to feed the study result back to the production of films. The industrial and technical efforts of color realization is following international trend but the academic and aesthetic study in Korea is behind the advances of industrial and technical efforts. Production Designer or Art Director is usually contribute to the aesthetic side of film making through the collaborative works with the Director and Director of Photography but, in Korea, the role of Production Designer or Art Director is limited to control of the movie sets and props. This study have explores the expressive conditions of theme and narrative through the analysis of colors in Film Noir with 〈A Bittersweet Life〉 as the central figure.
