The purpose of this study was to investigate how dance sports affects relationship, communication, and psychological happiness of cancer survivor couples. Using model of instruction, five cancer survivors and his or her spouse (a total of 10 participations) participated in this single-group study. The 6 week program was comprised of Latin dance ‘cha-cha-cha, twice a week. Surveys with self-administered questionnaires on couple relationship, communication, and psychological happiness were administered at baseline and after completion of the program. In depth interviews, observation and field notes were used to understand better on the result of quantitative results. Quantitative analysis showed that participation of the dance sports program significantly improved the third person related conflicts and psychological happiness. However, no improvement on communication domain was observed. In-depth interviews and field note revealed that participation of "cha-cha-cha" program help spouse of cancer patients about the nature of physical impairment in cancer patients. Furthermore, more frequent communication between couple were observed toward end of the program compared with the beginning of the program. Lastly, improvement in psychological happiness was observed toward the end of the program. Couple seemed to enjoy physical affection through dance program and common experience which increased their quality of life. In conclusion, the positive changes which resulted from the participation in dance sports may improve the marital relationship of cancer survivors.
