This study was undertaken to detect respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) antibodies and adenovirus (ADV) antibodies in hospitalized infants with respiratory illness by both complement fixation (CF) test and single radial complement fixation (SRCF) diffusion test. Sera specimens were collected from 51 Korean infants (61 sera with 10 convalescent sera) who were admitted to Pediatrics Department of Won Kwang University during the period of October through November, 1984. RSV antibodies in those infants were 12/61 (19.7%) by CF test and 14/61 (23.0%) by SRCF test. ADV antibodies in hospitalized infants were 3/61 (4.9%) by CF test and 4/61 (6.6%) by SRCF diffusion test. RSV was causative agents in three bronchiolitis case and one pneumonia case because they revealed have rising titer of antibodies in convalescent sera and high titer in positive range. Two bronchiolitis infants were found to have both RSV antibodies and ADV antibodies. High percentage of positivity in RSV and ADV antibodies were also found in institutionized infants.
