Haenggung-dong has not been called ‘the most valuable village of Maeulmandulgi’ at once suddenly. 2007, the most important year of Haenggung-dong CP(community planning), was an opportunity to meet external people who recognized the CP and the citizens interested on own village.
On urban policy, Cultural Heritage is a monumental element for people. The life of another, who is living heritage around, is alienated however. It was a similar situation on Haenggungdong until 2007. The place around Hwaseong Fortress 4) had declining population, growing empty shop continually behind its former glory.
Changes in Haenggung-dong began with meeting the locals and outside organizations. Besides, both inaugurating mayor Yeom Tae-yeong in Suwon-si at 2010 and Ecomobility World Festival 2013 Suwon were breakthrough chances to get motivation.
Haenggung-dong CP began as a voluntarily movement in the civilian level. After Yeom’s election, citizens were responding to the policy ‘Village Renaissance’ and participating in public offering projects. Besides, they made lots of community-activities on themselves. They were full in confidences and made a unique type of CP like ‘altogether citizens and artists in cultural history’.
Ecomobility World Festival 2013 Suwon at Sep. 2013 brought citizens new attitude to governance and consideration about the town. It was special that memories moving cars not in front of own house and car-free living. People get right awareness and stewardship more than before and government is convinced their role supporting once again.
It is a time that qualitative changes required on Haenggungdong. The adjustment focused on citizens awareness between the locals and government is required on consciousness changes and the power of experiences of ones. Now, the control tower of Haenggung-dong is not government but citizens. The government just performs the external support. If government transmigrate authorization to the locals, Haenggung-dong CP will be taken a step forward to the future.
