The present study examined 5th and 6th grade girls’ participation in physical education classes in order to find ways to encourage them to take part in physical activity. Data for the study came from the students" answers to the survey questions. The participants consisted of 631 students (male and female) from three different elementary schools in Seoul, Korea. The findings of the study are presented: (a) female students tend to avoid physical activity when they feel uncomfortable. Thus, a teacher needs to find what makes them uncomfortable and resolve the problem in order to help them enjoy the activity. (b) if the students like exercise, they are likely to participate in physical education classes more than the students who do not like. (c) since female students are reluctant to work out alone and afraid of physical challenges, a teacher should help them to have confidence as well as offer individualized education. (d) they also have a tendency to be conscious of others, and need support from teachers, parents and friends. (e) elementary school principals also have to support physical education. If needed, they should ask help from parents and communities.
