For studying the reception history of Bai Juyi"s poetry in Korea, the best cases are "Ode of Long-lastring Regret(長恨歌)" and "Song of Lute(琵琶行)". Still, there are other Bai"s works which were not well-known but very popular and immitated in Korean literary circle. Among them are the fourteen "Urge to Drink(勸酒十四首)" poems. These fourteen poems are included in the twenty-seventh quan of the Shaoxing edition of the 『Baishi Changqing ji(白氏長慶集)』. They were written in 830 when Bai was fifty-nine.
As the modern term "Korean Wave" indicates the popularity of Korean culture today, in the past the "Han Wave" was flourishing in the Eastern Asia. The fourteen "Urge to Drink" poems, especially the seventh poem "When people can’t easily forget wine(何處難忘酒七首)", can be regarded as an important element of the "Han Wave," for it had been a trend that the Korena literati immitated the seventh poem to express their feelings of joy and sorrow. This article will explore the recpection history of these fourteen poems and its significance in the history of Korean Literature based on surveying the 350 volumes of the 『Hanguo wenji congkan(韓國文集叢刊)』.
