This study starts from the concern of analysis on the crisis of Korean churches in the perspective of leadership and of recovery of Korean churches’ lost credibility through the reinterpretation of leadership. As the first step for such concerns, a unbalance between the traditional types of leadership in Korean churches and recent trend of leadership theories are diagnosed in detail. By this process, a potential success-oriented attitude under the notion of leadership is strongly criticized as the lack of various elements regarding the necessary values in leadership formation. Secondly, this study describes the necessity that Christian leadership cannot be a short-term resolution and should aim to build an incorporative methodology strengthening responsibility of the church toward Korean history and society. To achieve such goals, an analysis of the Western philosophy’s basic structure from Plato and Aristotle including the consideration of their communities’ historical context, a redirection in relation to human beings, metaphysical dilemma on invisible existence in terms of correlation with Christian leadership is explained. However, this attempt is not a comparative way to seek certain similarities between Christian leadership and Western philosophy, but an integral process to reveal that a basic philosophical methodology presupposes sharp and through consideration on human beings themselves and their historical situation. Explaining these fea tures is underscored for the sake of how to apply to the leadership of Korean churches. Thirdly, this study is a search for a unique factors of Christian leadership in addition the characteristics of general leadership theories. Considering the identity of the church as a faith community, there should be some unique tradition and values that differ from the core values of secular leadership theories. This clarifies that Christian leadership possesses the most essential elements of leadership theory formation from the very beginning and that it has been developed into typical contents through the mixture of Christian faith from the generation to generation. Then, that such characteristics of Christian leadership is in accordance with the consideration concerning the leadership discovered through the Western philosophy and that this accordance will be a basis of a new leadership transformation for the future ministry formation in Korean churches is provided as the conclusion and suggestion for further study.
