This is a study of the characters in the Gospel of Mark. All other people than Jesus, the twelve, Jewish leaders (opponents) are called “minor characters”. This is the case of the studies by David Rhoads, Joanna Dewey and Donald Michie, Mark as Story. An Introduction to the Narrative of a Gospel (Philadelphia: Fortress, 1999). However, this study tries to prove that some of them are important and great characters by showing how they ``repent`` in the Passion Narrative of Mark. They are the centurion, who executed a death penalty to Jesus (15:16-20, 24-27) but confessed his faith immediately after the death of Jesus, Arimathea Joseph who voted against Jesus for a death penalty (14:55; 15:1) but held a funeral for him (15:42-47), a young man who fled naked (14:51-52) but revealed the news of Jesus` resurrection (16:5-7), and the mother of Jesus who was ``outside`` and tried to stop the ministry of Jesus (3:31-35) but became a witness together with two other women for the death and funeral and resurrection of Jesus (15:40-41, 42-47; 16:1-8). Mark`s story of Jesus makes them stand not only as prominent characters but also as owners and protagonists of the gospel with their extraordinary experience of repentance and their heartfelt autobiographic stories.
