This paper aims at showing why Calvin deleted a sentence from his 1539 presentation of his moderate religious stance in Institutio Christianae Religionis of 1536. For this, I analyze the texts of 1536 and 1539 and I try to find his intent. Secondly, I attempt to explain Calvin`s attitude toward other religions through the relationship between Islam as a religion of Turks and Saracens, and Calvin as a Christian. From this, I show that Calvin`s concern changed from 1536 to 1539. While Calvin deals with excommunication from an eschatological perspective in 1536, he handles it ecclesiastically in 1539. In 1536 Calvin delays the decision regarding ``the reprobate`` and ``the people, who stays outside (the church)`` until eschatological times, leaving judgment to God, so the final determination is beyond the human realm. In contrast, in 1539, Calvin is interested in forming protestant religious identity differentiated from the Roman Catholic. In other words, Calvin is interested in the forming of a pure faith - the true Protestant Church. I conclude, therefore, that Calvin had deleted the sentence presenting his moderate religious tolerance owing to change of theological interests. Secondly, I try to explain the reason why Calvin`s deletion took place in relation to the international situation in Europe, especially through Calvin`s stance toward the Islam. Additionally, I analyse the texts mentioning Islam, Mohammad, Turks, etc. In this process I observe two facts: First, Calvin concedes that Islam and Christianity share Abraham as an ancestor of faith. From this, he asserts that Islam is away from the pure faith of Christianity. Second, his criterion for this is Islam`s regard for Jesus Christ, so Islam is heresy - the possibility of salvation opens in a eschatological dimension. In conclusion, Calvin judges Islam as heresy, because Islam rejects Jesus Christ. So that the Church maintains the unity of a faith, Jesus Christ is the criterion, but he indicates the responsibility of mission is to be open the possibility of salvation.
