The goal of the inquiry is to present methodological alternatives of the biblical ethics. Scripture is the foundation of the church’ s faith and practice. However, appeals to Scripture are suspect for at least two reasons. The Bible itself contains diverse points of view and differing interpretive methods can yield alternative readings of any given text. In this paper, I try to give synthetic accounts of the basis for unity of the Bible. First, methodologies of the biblical ethics are the diachronic method by time analysis and the synchronic method by space analysis. These two methods are faced with tradeoffs. To get one thing that we like, we usually have to give up another thing that we like. We have a task to integrate them in order to have a unity of ethical perspective within the diversity of the Bible. Second, one of the methodological alternatives is to raise the power of thought : (think)^(1) → (think)^(2) → (think)^(3) → (think)^(4) →… (think)^(n). Using this power function, we analyze a person’s thought form in two dimension of thought. We then find out the thought form of a people in three dimension of thought. We can seek an unity of the Bible on the base of Hebraic thought form, but this approach is not yet developed. Third, another one of the methodological alternatives is “faith event/witness” approach. The Bible can be considered a book that has witnesses of inspiring experiences of God ; we can identify faith events that all the different canonical tellings share. I will show that the unity of the Bible can be grasped only through faith events. And I will draw out the biblical ethics from faith events in the Bible.
