From ancient times, the fundamental concept of theological anthropology has been imago Dei: human beings have been created to be God`s image on earth. What constitutes the human being`s likeness to God? The answers which theological tradition has given to this question may be briefly summed up as follows, 1. According to the analogy of substance, the soul(which is the human being` s reasonable and volitional nature) is the seat of human likeness to God, for it is immortal, and similar to the divine nature. 2. According to the analogy of form(appearance), The human being` s upright walk, and his upward glance are also of the image of God. 3. According to the analogy of proportionality(domination), the image of God is to be found in man`s lordship over the earth, since this corresponds to God`s general lordship over the world. 4. According to the analogy of human right, there is no distinction at all between human beings; there is only equality. Not only the king and royal family, but also all the common people including man and women are a common, shared human right. 5. According to the analogy of relation, finally, it consists in the fact that human beings, for their part, correspond to God. And God`s relationship to human beings is manifested in the community of human beings. Recently, many theologian such as K. Barth and J. Moltmann admitted the analogy of relation as inclusive biblical interperetation. But they insisted twofold relations: the relation of God between man/woman and the relation of man/woman between man/woman. D. Bonhoffer added the relation of mart/woman and nature. In Conclusion, These threefold relationships of the Image of God are not only God`s grace(Gabe) given only toward man/woman and but also man/woman`s assignment(Aufgabe). The threefold relationships of the Image of God correspond to the organic harmony of three realities(天地人, 三太極), and will be adapted as the principle of hermeneutics for interpreting the main theme of the Bible in Korean theological perspective.
