The purpose of this study was, first, to identify the influence of personality traits on exercise addiction among mass-marathon participants. Then, the moderating effects of race events between this relationship was further investigated. Four hundred adults who have experienced mass marathon for the past 1 year were recruited(convenient sampling) and completed the questionaries. Among those, 307 sets were used for the analyses including exploratory factor, reliability, frequency, multiple regression, and step-wise controlled re-gression analyses. The results showed that, first, extraversion, conscientiousness, openness to experience had positive influence on exercise addiction among mass-marathon participants. Agreeableness, on the other hand, showed negative influence. Secondly, such influences of personality traits on exercise addiction was moderated by the participating race event types. Participants who had raced in different type of events showed significantly different patterns of relationship between personality traits and exercise addiction. Especially, the influence of the personality trait on exercise addiction was significantly higher for the mass-marathoners who had participated in the full-course event when compared to those with the 5km, 10km, or half-course par-ticipants. Such results indicatesmoderating effects of the participating race event types between the personality trait and exercise addiction.
