This study examined the changes of cortisol, ACTH and aldosterone after listening to 3 types of music tempos (Allegro M.M=132, M.M=00 and Andante M.M=66) during the resting period after 30-minute exercise on treadmill. This study is intended to identify the relationship between music and exercise and ultimately provide the means for physical recovery and health during the restoration period after exercise while inhibiting the stress hormones. For theses purposes, this study examined 12 male university students in I university located in Incheon, Korea. The data was submitted to SPSS 11.5 statistical package for analysis. The significance level was set at α= .05 for all analyses. The results are as follows: At V·O2max 60% of exercise strength, tempo M.M=132 showed significant differences in the changes of cortisol, ACTH and aldosterone during the 40-minute restoration period after exercise compared to M.M=00 and M.M=66 tempos (p<.05). In addition, for aldosterone, there were significant difference during both the 20-and 40-minutes resting periods. There was also a statistically significant difference in the interactions between tempo and measurement period (p<.05). Consequently, the application of tempo M.M=132 during the restoration period after exercise was more effective than the applications of M.M=00 and M.M=66. Thus, it is strongly recommended that M.M=132 tempo be applied as an active measure against the physical changes after exercise. It is also suggested that more systematic and refined tempo application should be studied across different exercise strengths, ages and exercise types.
