In order that patients in home networks can get opportunities for useful remote healthcare services beyond Legacy Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) services, this paper proposes a home network based 3rd-party remote healthcare IPTV service platform. The proposed service platform is operated as an "add-on" solution on the existing home gateway that can interwork home network and IPTV, and can be a gateway for home network as well as wireless sensor network(WSN)/wireless body area network(WBAN). The proposed service platform provides open architecture and functionalities to enable 3rd-party remote healthcare IPTV service providers to deliver locally and directly their healthcare services to patients in home networks. The open architecture and functionalities of the proposed home network based 3rd-party remote healthcare IPTV service platform are defined and their requirements are specified. In addition, the operation procedure for home network based remote healthcare IPTV service using the proposed service platform is presented.
