The purpose of this study is to make an analysis of land use conflicts in forest areas. The land use conflict in forest prevail on the process of urbanization and industrialization. Many trees have disappeared in the process of land use diversion or conflict to harvest lumber or cultivate the crops.
As global climate change gains the interests of leader of many countries, especially developed countries, which has become main challenge to solve this problem in global level. The protect of forest is appreciated as an efficient strategy to mitigate climate change. The mitigation strategy of greenhouse gases through the forest preservation is to use market incentives or fund in order to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases from deforestation and forest degradation, or produce discharge right through reforestration.
I reviewed several ideas such as the possession right on natural resources use, quasi property-right, in situ resources and commodity resources to study the recent trend of the land use conflict considering on carbon trade.
Paraguay was selected as study areas, plot areas of UN-REDD project. The Eastern Region of Paraguay, still 70% forested in the 1970s but reduced to 41% in the 1990s and 25% in the 2000s. The principal economic driver of land use change in the region is mechanized soya cultivation. Large private land owners converted extensive forest areas to large patches of agricultural fields, driven in part by the fear that their forest land could be expropriated if left forested. With growing concerns on the conservation of forest in Paraguay, land use itself will draw our interest as Paraguay"s environmental challenge.
