Korea is the second biggest importer of corn in the world and Mexico is the third, although the crop has its origin in this last one, since 1994 Mexico has become a major importer of corn in the world. This paper examines the possible economic implications for Mexico and Korea increased ethanol production from corn in recent years. The analysis begins with the close relationship of three interconnected problems that have generated the current energy crisis: global warming, the oil crisis and, the production of biofuels wich are triggering a global food crisis. Ethanol production from corn is emerging as an alternative that can reduce the global warming problem and resolve, in part, the conflict of the alleged shortage of oil that has caused the unusual increase of oil prices in recent years.
