Hanji is a unique Korean traditional paper that has been used based on national traits and sensibility. So, Koreans feel more attached to Hanji than any other material that is used in traditional handicraft. Hanji has always been in Korean life and it has been used in diverse use as Changhoji(windowpaper), floorpaper and wallpaper. It is very rare case that has this kind of relation between paper and citizen. Many people living in modern days forget about the importance of national property. So, as a way of global competitiveness, the importance of nature friendly Hanji that has a potential of development in cultural industry and need of related information to develop Hanji is now more recognized. Hanji is a material that has unique quality of wood and diverse color which can be used for various expression. Also Hanji is a material that is highly flexible and elastic which can be used to express new type of formative art. This study focused on general characteristic of Hanji and analyzed about various technique, formative factors and new expression potential of Hanji.
