The rapid change into super-aging society has led problems related to welfare, protection and health care of the elderly, and problems of the elderly are receiving attention as social issues. There is an increasing number of aged people living in urban apartments, but aged people are limited in doing economic and social activities. If characteristics and behavioral desires of the elderly are satisfied by the housing environment, welfare and mental health of the elderly can be improved. This study aims to seek an improvement plan to use a community space in an apartment complex safely and comfortably by analyzing behaviors of the aged in this space. For case analysis, an interview was conducted with aged people living in Hill State Apt., Samsung-dong, Gangnam-gu, Prugio Apt. Gileum New Town, Seongbuk-gu, and Xi Apt., Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu. Also, behavioral characteristics were classified into safety, accessibility, and wayfinding, and community spaces of each apartment were classified into a trail, a sport facility, a pavilion, and a bench, based on the analysis criteria. As a result, Xi Apt. provided the best safety, accessibility and wayfinding system, and it was followed by Hill State Apt, and Prugio Apt. This result demonstrates that there should be a consideration for the elderly to use outdoor spaces of apartment complex, and more improved plan and continued research have to be carried out using more diverse targets and elements in future.
