The purpose of this paper is to evaluate Professor Suh’s academic contribution to Pauline studies. He has argued that Paul’s theological discourse cannot be understood as an timeless doctrine. Rather, he insists that it is a situational product that was formulated in the process of responding to the specific questions in Pauline communities. Professor Suh Joong-Suk has long established his reputation as an eminent New Testament scholars, a brilliant teacher and preacher. Throughout his career he has excelled as an innovative author in the fields of Bible and theology. He taught New Testament from 1986 to 2014 at Yonsei University as Professor of New Testament. His research in the field of New Testament has focused on the Canonical Gospel and on Pauline studies. He has tried to understand Pauline text in the light of the sociological perspectives. In regard to Suh’s contribution to Pauline research, there is little need to repeat the enthusiastic response of the reviewers to his Interpreting Paul’s Letter (1998) and The Gospel of Paul (2003), because the book has become an acknowledged classic that has been welcomed by generations of students. I am convinced that his works should be remained as the great legacy of Korean theology.
