Toni Morrison’s Love abounds with anything as opposed to love: gang rape, pedophilia, familial hate, racial betrayal and patriarchal and sexual violence. Nevertheless, it turns out to be a book of ‘love,’ which equals a language prior to language as ‘the law of the father.’ Patriarchal and sexual violence destroys two prepubescent girls’ love relationship beyond their sex, race, class and affiliation. Above all, it takes their private, intimate language away. When the two friends, now grown up, realize they have complied with the rules of “Big Daddy” and get their mutual language back, they renew the meaning and possibilities of love. Love is the power which transforms the deformed world.
