This study investigated the use of plants in the proverbs of Korean and Japanese. The commonality and differences in the proverbs of the two languages were mainly based on the frequency of plants
The commonalities in plants uses between two languages are as following; 1. Both languages use a tree as a source of proverbs. 2. There were many proverbs with different meanings but coming from the same plants source. 3. There were many proverbs with the same meaning but coming from different plants sources.
The differences are as below; 1. Japanese proverbs tends to use plants representing natural phenomenon or customs and scenery while Korean ones use plants representing dietary life related to rice and fruits. 2. Korean has expressions ended with predicates while Japanese has expressions ended with substantives. 3. There are some plants only observed in the proverbs of Korean and Japanese.
