Recently, studies on the inspiration and application of the optimized structure of the nature have been conducted. In particular, a new concept of adhesion methods inspired by the gecko lizard due to superior features such as high adhesion, easy removable and non-pollution were introduced, and various micro- or nano- structures were fabricated and tested. In this study, we suggested metal coatings to improve the adhesion characteristics for Gecko-like microstructures. PDMS Gecko-like microstructure was fabricated by a micromolding method, which was prepared by DRIE. And then, the metal coating was conducted using the plasma sputter. Microstructures were fabricated with respect to the metal materials and the thickness of the metal coating. The shape of fabricated microstructures was examined by metallurgical microscope and SEM. Adhesion and durability was evaluated by repeated adhesion tests on the glass. From the repeated adhesion and durability tests the relationship between the metal coating conditions was constructed and the effect of the metal coating on the Gecko-like microsctructures was analyzed.
