It was the education and publishing to influence on the culture or literature field of Daegu around 1910. Woo-Hyun Seoru(友弦書樓) and Gwang-Mun publishing company which were the basis of education and book distribution were important institutions that disseminate the modern knowledge to intellectuals in Daegu. They led the dissemination of modern knowledge and the enlightenment movement, making use of the character of place ‘Daegu’ in contrast to the center, ‘Seoul’.
Woo-Hyun Seoru has not been illuminated properly so far because of deficiency in data even though it was an important function in the formation of literature field in Daegu during the age of modern enlightenment. Woo-Hyun Seoru before the invasion of western imperialism was the educational institution and library founded by ‘Il-Woo, Lee’ who realized the importance of accepting new culture and disseminating modern knowledge. This article reconstructed the content and character of books in Woo-Hyun Seoru based on a part of newly discovered ones in there. Also, this article examined books of Gwang-Mun publishing company flowed into Woo-Hyun Seoru. As a result, it was revealed that the literature field in Daegu around 1910 was mainly composed by education and publishing. This became the important basis to enhance modern literature in Daege. Based on books of Woo-Hyun Seoru, intellectuals in Daegu could acquire the modern knowledge and foster the national consciousness.
The subsequent task is to examine how the place, ‘Daegu’ and its literature field, operates in his literature after 1910’s.
