Teachers’ perceptions of the students’ language ability have a big impact on the teaching-learning aspects in educational context. In these sense, this study investigates the aspects of experienced teachers’ perceptions about elementary students’ Korean language ability.
This paper conducted 2-stage Delphi survey of 16 teachers who have a minimum of ten years’ experience. The most frequently mentioned through entire grade level was Korean language ability related to ‘Speaking and Listening’, whereas Korean language ability related to ‘Grammar’ was of little importance. Also results indicate that Korean language use ability was recognized significant to elementary students and should be improved as grade-cluster advanced.
Thus the aspects of teachers’ perceptions about elementary students’ Korean language ability have similar points of view with the national Korean curriculum in elementary school and are regarded as flexible, constantly evolve. Moreover, tendency of perceptions, Korean language ability is segmented rather than whole language approach should be advanced regarding both concepts.
