Since 2000s, a labor market in Korean tourism industry has been changing due to a big growth that more than 12 million foreign tourists visited Korea in 2013. Korean tourism industry is demanding to those who are skillful, oriented to a tourism job. So, Human Resources Development Service of Korea(HRD Korea) began to develop the National Competency Standards(NCS) for a field of tourism and leisure in 2013.
The study tried to find some problems in developing NCS in hotel service, which consists of 5 jobs: hotel planning and development, rooms operation management, hotel facilities management, banquet management, and guest relations service, and suggested 4 problems for the NCS. Especially, a participation of inappropriately qualified specialists is the most serious of four. The others are wrong classification of job, boarder selection of developer and good cooperation with HRD Korea and other organizations, Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training and Department of Education.
As a result, developing the NCS is very important for Korean tourism industry because it is possible to solve a gap between a demand of field in industry and educational training.
