This paper explores the process that the marginal people in a small city in Korea have constructed a public park(Central Park, hereafter) as their own social cultural space based on gender, especially masculinity. Masculinity is divided into predominant and marginal one in Central Park. In the division, the physical force and strength takes an important role especially between relatively stronger middle-aged men and weaker elderly men. Some middle-aged men show off their physical strength and make an invisible boundary against the elderly. In response, the elderly men try not to have a intimate relationship with middle-aged men and act cautiously to avoid conflicts with them. At the same time, the elderly men criticize the middle-aged men by comparing the masculinity that they enjoyed in the past and by emphasizing their masculinity that was based on hard working, patriarchic responsibility, and patriotism in the era of rapid industrialization in Korea. Men, both elderly and middle-aged, objectify the women in Central Park sexually. They mostly recognize, stigmatize, and treat the women as a prostitute. Because of this prejudice, they believe that women are not a proper and eligible group who can stay in Central Park. Ironically, their expression of masculinity against women is a sign of weakening masculinity partly because of aging and partly because of their deteriorating socioeconomic status. In this way, men regard the women as a mirror of their masculinity. This can be interpreted as an effort to deal with and overcome daily difficulties encountered in real world in their social cultural space. In the processes, Central Park forms a unique social cultural community based on specific gender relationship.
