This study was conducted to make an in-depth analysis of the motive for participation in sports of youth students in the Australian Gold-coast area. For this purpose, the questionnaire research was conducted for a total 278 Australian youth students composed of 167 males and 110 females in order to investigate the motive factors for their participation in sports. The open-ended questionnaire was made to ask the respondents to complete their personal answer to the most important motive factor for participation in sports by dividing it into school year, gender and the presence or absence of participation in out-of-school clubs. And data collection and content analysis were conducted in English. The domain and categorization work was conducted by making an inductive content analysis through the tripartite-consent testing work of one English professor and two sport psychology professors. As a result, the following findings were obtained: The domain was divided into nine such as fun/pleasure, physical strength, health, sociality, mood, competition, a sense of achievement, challenge and gusto. Overall, it was found that fun/pleasure, physical strength and health were the most important motive for participation in sports. The more male youths thought importantly of the motive factor of fun/pleasure than the female counterparts, whereas the more female youth put a value on the health factor. And the more elementary school students thought importantly of fun/pleasure and physical strength as the motive factor of participation in sports than the secondary school students, whereas the more secondary school students focused on the health factor. There was not a great difference between the participations in out-of-school sports clubs and the non-participants. The above findings taken together, fun/pleasure, physical strength, health, sociality, mood, competition, a sense of achievement, challenge and gusto were found to be the important motive factors for participation in sports of ordinary Australian students. The findings showed the distribution of many responses to physical strength and health rather than the study conducted for ordinary students. They did not show a great difference from the findings of previous studies as the youths pursued fun/pleasure, physical strength, health and sociality as the motive for participation in sports.
