The purpose of this research is to catch the distinctive feature of ‘People-loving Mind’ indicated as the main idea of ‘Tamna Byeolgok’. It is not enough with the context alone to clearly understand the essay therefore we reviewed the essay in the tradition of Jeju Walk respecting the author"s intention stating ‘Hurry out for Walk’.
The author could focus on people in the eyes of an insider as he saw Tamna where Royal politics was realized then described Tamna as a place to take a walk around other than to travel as he could not consider the culture of Tamna differently. It was possible because the essay was literary expression of public statement as a governor and servant belonging to the medieval philosophy rather than depicted at the individual level.
The essay was written in the 18th century when there had cracks between medieval values and ideology, something newer emerged thus the society was shaken by fluctuations and variations. Tamna Byeolgok, however, became the driving force in the midst of 18th century to change the reality and actively solve the problems by the medieval philosophy of author. the essay is considered as a literary expression of public voice along with the inner reflections and vision of Jeju governor for the future of Tamna thru the Tamna Walk.
