The results of this article are as follow: First, Koreans understand the interstate boundaries in terms of the economy. Also, Koreans perceive that the land boundaries are weakening, and this weakening inter-state boundaries exert a positive impact on their life. Second, the psychological perception of the inter-state boundaries, indeed, does not help to solve problems such as actual territory and border clashes. Individuals with the perception of the weakening inter-state boundaries tend to take a strong stand on the territorial issue and understand the Korea boundary as the extended one. Since the weakening of inter-state boundaries promotes the mobility of land boundaries, the possibility of a border clash increases.
Third, the article documents that ethnic-genealogical characteristic in the Korean identity remains strong. In addition, a political ideology identifies Korean national residing abroad. When compared to Korean residents in the U.S. and Japan, individuals show a lower percentage for the perception of North Korean, Korea-Chinese, and Korea-Russian as Korean. Fourth, the Korean perception of multi-cultural family is not related to the demographic factor, but to the regional factor. Individuals living a rural area are likely to show a conflicting attitude with both endorsement and discrimination towards multi-cultural family. This results from the fact that multi-cultural family in Korea is formed in the lower class. Last, the Korea perception of border toward China seems more important than the perception toward Japan.
Furthermore, the closer relationship between Korea and China will keep up, because the relationship shows the low level of causes of latent conflict as well as intensifying economic interdependence.
