The purpose of this study is to analyze how Zyunoutai sentence structure is used in University’s Japanese language textbooks with a focus on yarimorai as a Japanese grammatical category, and to explore how it is used with pedagogical perspective. The results are followings. (1) The textbooks presented 23 different types of Japanese verbs with 61 frequencies.The most frequently shown verb is osieru (7 time uses) and the least frequently shown verbs are eight types of verbs such as ogoru, or turetekuru (one time use). (2) Considering the frequency, there were four types where the beneficiary existed in core structures. Among verbs included in the four types, the most frequent types are indirect object of Zyunoutai, possessor of direct object of Zyunoutai, direct object of Zyunoutai, then possessor of indirect object of Zyunoutai.However, there were the big differences in frequency among the four types. (3) There was no textbook covering all of the four types of Zyunoutai sentence structure, especially textbook A, B, and D included three types and textbook C did only two types.
It is important that University’s Japanese textbooks should deal with the basic four types related to zyunoutai as an essential expression in Japanese conversation. In addition, teaching techniques including zyunoutai form related to the kiyotai sentence structure should be developed based on learning steps and it will help Japanese learners to develop authentic communication skills.
