The purpose of this study is to figure out characteristics of exterior focusing on museums located in Seoul which have been built since 2000s. The study conducted a field study in 14 museums located in Seoul and wrote the results using museums Color System. As for an analyzing method, it used ISCC-NBS (Inter-Society Color Council-National Bureau of Standard) designating color and Color Harmony by Moon & Spencer. Stones and aluminum are used the most as a material for museum appearance and exposed mass concrete is mainly used. Colors are mainly achromatic colors and it can be known that this is influenced by high-tech design which appeared after Modernism. Both hight brightness and low brightness are used equally and 13 museums use low chroma. But, Kukje Gallery only uses achromatic colors, is difficult to know the chroma. Color harmony by Moon & Spencer"s harmony theory was remarkable. The author wish that this study would be helpful to figure out characteristics and to establish exterior colors of museums by observing color characteristics through this study.
