New sets of glossiness data were collected using ratio scaling method and then compared with the results of previous study, which adopted partition scaling method using the same samples. The black and white polycarbonate samples with 21 different gloss levels for each color were shown in the viewing booth and twenty-one observers estimated the perceived glossiness of each sample. Both data sets showed that black sample looks glossier than white sample having the same physical gloss but ratio scaling shows larger difference between black and white samples than the partition scaling. Also data analysis showed that limiting the response range (partition scaling) may distort the results especially for nearly matte or highly glossy samples.
